Born in Melbourne, Maurice graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music (Professional Music) from Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA, USA (www.berklee.edu), and an Advanced Certificate in Music Performance (Jazz/Pop), Box Hill TAFE (www.boxhill.edu.au), Melbourne, Australia. He also has a BEc. (Economics), Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

Currently, Maurice gigs with "None of Your Business", playing a variety of Rock, Blues and Dance music from the 50's to the present.

Returning home after almost 10 years abroad, Maurice has gigged extensively in the USA, Europe, Mexico and Australia, playing guitar in a wide variety of settings. He has also taught in the studio setting for many years in America and Australia. The small ensemble setting is his focus, using music history, Jazz theory, harmony and ear training as a basis for teaching. Whether you play Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Contemporary or World Music, you can expand your playing skills with the 30 years of music experience and musicianship Maurice has to offer.


Vera tan - violin

Vera completed her L.MusA for violin at age 16. She has been learning the violin since three years old and understands what it’s like for a young child to learn an instrument. She is inspired to pass on her knowledge and experience to students of all ages and backgrounds.

Besides being trained classically, Vera also runs a YouTube channel, VISZ music where she posts Disney covers and covers of pop songs. She enjoys arranging these pieces by ear and expressing her creative side through music.



Virginia specializes in Classical Piano Music. She is an innovative and imaginative tutor with an extended repertoire, able to relate to students of all ages.

“When I was aged 8 my mother took myself and my sister to a piano performance in my home town in Spain, and it was the beginning of my musical journey. From that moment on, I knew that had to learn an instrument, and listen to as much music as I possibly could.”

She is a graduate of: USC Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (Music Education), UNIOVI Universidad de Oviedo (Music History and Science) and the Superior Conservatory of Ribeira (Piano).

Her knowledge has been acquired over 20 years, in a variety of different educational and performance opportunities throughout the world.

Virginia speaks: Spanish, Gallego and English.


Davey Porter - DRUMS

DAVEY PORTER is a Professional Drummer residing in Melbourne Australia. He is a well respected musician with a long list of drumming credits including: Cold Chisels, Ian Moss, Daniel Merriweather, Eran James,Ian Moss, James Reyne, Tina Arena, Renee Geyer, Tommy Emmanuel, Jenny Morris, Vanessa Amorosi, Debra Byrne, Vika & Linda Bull, John Farnham, Joe Camilleri & Black Sorrows, Richard Clapton, Toni Childs, Ernest Ranglin, Bunny Ruggs, Rodriguez & Electric Mary.

Thom Swain – Guitar, Electric Bass & Music Theory

Thom has been playing music since he was ten years old. Inspired by rock and alternative music, Thom began playing guitar and soon after, found a passion of electric bass. As he continued to learn, he developed an interest in Jazz and Improvisation. In 2018, he completed a Bachelor of Music (Jazz performance) at Monash University’s Sir Zelman Cohen School of Music, during which, he studied under some of Australia’s leading musicians including; Simon Starr, Tony Gould, Linda May Han Oh. A lover of all things groove, Thom plays and appreciates a diverse range of music and regularly performs with Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, Pop & Ska. This diversity makes Thom a versatile and adaptable teacher, valuing the unique interests, tastes and skill levels of each student. Thom also composes and produces original music and is currently working on his debut release. Thom’s lessons consist of learning songs students know and love while combining elements of music theory and ear training in practical and applicable ways. He emphasises the importance of hard work when learning music, but also the core aim of having fun and loving music.


Tim Rex - acoustic & electric bass, Brass Instruments including Trombone, Trumpet and Brass, arranging & piano

Having recently graduated from James Morrison Academy of Music with his Bachelor of Music and Honours, Tim has moved to Melbourne and began gigging professionally in the music scene. Specializing in Jazz, he has been fortunate enough to study and play with some of Australia’s best musicians, with his main bass teacher whilst studying being Phil Stack from Thirsty Merc. Tim also studied trombone under James Morrison and Wycliffe Gordon. 

Tim is able to play in a variety of styles and on several instruments. This diversity allows him to offer a holistic approach to his teaching. As apart of his skills in arranging he has acquired extensive piano skills.


Jonathan Fletcher - Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Electric Bass & Ukulele

Jon began his musical journey at 9 years of age, when he started to learn classical guitar in Mexico. Ten years later, Jon’s eclectic musical taste has led him through a myriad of genres, from progressive metal to modern jazz.

Lessons centre around learning music the student is interested in whilst developing efficient practice routines, solid technique, an understanding of music theory and a good ear.

Jon completed VCE Music Performance (Contemporary Guitar), and was selected as both House Music captain and Senior Stage Band captain at McKinnon Secondary College in 2018. He was accepted into the Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) at Monash University, and although now studying towards a career in psychology, he remains as passionate about music as ever.


May Johnston - Vocal Coach.

May Johnston has recently completed a European tour with her band Deep Street Soul signed to UK label Freestyle Records; performing at Glastonbury Music festival and St Paul Soul and Jazz Festival. Her professional experience includes live performances at live venues in Australia, Asia and Europe. May has also recorded on soundtracks for Blue Heelers, Halifax fp as well as being hired as a session vocalist for original songwriters. Her original songs with Deep Street Soul are played internationally and nationally and have received great worldwide reviews. Passionate, professional and hardworking are three words that describe this performer!!


Josh Antmann - Guitar & Ukulele

Josh Antmann is an up and coming Melbourne guitarist with a wide range of performance and teaching experience. He has been playing since the age of 13, and has completed his Bachelor of Jazz Performance at Monash University. Josh was taught by some of Melbourne's most established musicians such as Steve Magnusson, Mike Jordan, Paul Williamson, James Sherlock & Jordan Murray. He participated in overseas units based in New York and Italy, where he learned from and performed with some of the Jazz giants of today such as Lenny White, Chris Potter & Gregoire Maret.

Josh is currently in the Melbourne-based band Headphones Jones, a high energy 9 piece Funk/Afrobeat/Latin outfit that gets dance floors moving and grooving. He also has experience performing jazz in a wide range of settings such as singer/guitar duos and saxophone quartets. Lessons with Josh always have the same focus; having fun, experimenting and improving. He has years of teaching experience and can cater to all ages, skill levels and stylistic approaches of the student. All genres welcome!


Jose Hernandez - Drums

Born in Chile, Jose is a professional drummer specialising in the drum technique of Miguel Zarate, the First Percussionist of the Chilean Philharmonic Orchestra. Jose has a large garnered wide experience from many bands and orchestras across Australia, New Zealand and Chile. Stylistically he plays and teaches: Latin, Funk, Rock, Pop & Jazz.
