NDIS Participants
Why Work With NDIS Participants?
This is something of a personal matter for me (MOTOWN music school management).
My family and I were on a holiday in Queensland. Walking around, we saw a guy in an electric wheelchair, desperately thrashing about. He looked like he needed help and nobody wanted to help him.
I walked up and asked him … “Do you need help?
He said “could you please open my sushi.” He had a roll of sushi sitting on his wheelchair’s tray, well wrapped up, and he couldn’t open it. I unwrapped the sushi, placed the opened sushi on his wheelchair tray.
“Do you need anything else?”
He said “no.”
And that was that… It doesn't take much to help someone out; no matter how small. I’m clear this small effort on my part made a positive difference to his day. In the same way, we focus on adding to the quality of life of NDIS participants having sessions at MOTOWN music school.
How We Help out NDIS Participants:
At present, NDIS funding cannot directly be used to cover the cost of art and music activities, however funding can be used for supports to enable participation in art or music activities, just not the cost of the activity itself.
At MOTOWN Music School, we approach a session with an NDIS Participant as support workers who spend some time talking about and demonstrating music. If the Participant wants to spend time accessing their instrument of choice, that’s fine. If they want something more technical, we can do that too. And if they want to sit quietly, that’s fine as well.
We’ve had great success working with NDIS Participants, focusing on quality of life, fun, and personal growth, as well as music. Our programs are performance-based, encouraging students to interact, express themselves, and achieve new goals.
What We Offer:
One to One Sessions with one student and one teacher at our studio in Bentleigh East, VIC 3165, a safe, arty and encouraging environment.
Social interaction outside a participant’s usual circle.
Personal development through creative expression.
A sense of purpose, routine, and achievement.

Some NDIS Participants Who Have Used Our Services.
Stuart Williams
This is Stuart Williams - The Musical Poet. For us, it is important to allow NDIS Participants to have a voice.
Stuart had sessions at MOTOWN music school for a number of years. His amazing results are self evident in the work he has produced. He has come a long way from being a shy introvert, dealing with mental health issues, to composing, producing, recording and releasing his own music.
Stuart now has now published his recordings on Spotify and Soundcloud. Just click on the links (in bold).

As at 16th October, 2023, here is a screenshot of Stuart’s Spotify account dashboard. It's quite amazing to see. Well done Stuart!
Jordan L.
This is Jordan. It never ceases to amaze me how he manages to remember so many songs and of such a wide range of styles. His favourite group is The Wiggles, but his knowledge of music goes way beyond this band.
Jordan came to me distressed and unhappy. Generally this is him now … pretty relaxed. Personally, I can say it’s always fun spending time with him.
He started here on the guitar and has moved on to the drums and now, his favourite, the bass. He is really having fun; you can see it.
