NDIS Support Through Music
Supporting Quality of Life at MOTOWN music school
Our Why
This is something deeply personal to the management at MOTOWN music school.
While on a family holiday in Queensland, we noticed a man in an electric wheelchair who appeared distressed. People were walking past, unsure how to help.
We approached him and asked, “Do you need help?”
He replied, “Could you please open my sushi?”
The sushi was tightly wrapped and difficult for him to manage independently. After opening it and placing it on his tray, we asked if he needed anything further.
He smiled and said, “No.”
And that was that.
It was a simple moment but a powerful reminder that even small acts of support can significantly improve someone’s day.
At MOTOWN music school, this philosophy guides how we work with NDIS participants. We believe meaningful support doesn’t have to be complicated it simply needs to improve quality of life.
How We Support NDIS Participants
While NDIS funding typically does not directly cover the cost of music or art activities, it can fund supports that enable participation in these activities.
At MOTOWN music school, we provide sessions in the capacity of support workers, using music as a vehicle for engagement, connection, and personal development.
Each session is participant-led and adaptable. For example:
Some participants enjoy exploring an instrument
Others prefer structured, technical guidance
Some benefit most from social interaction
Others simply enjoy being in a calm, creative environment
All preferences are respected.
Our goal is to create a space where participants feel safe, supported, and encouraged.
Our Approach
We have experienced strong outcomes working with NDIS participants by focusing on:
Quality of life
Confidence building
Personal growth
Social connection
Enjoyment
Our sessions are naturally interactive and performance based, encouraging participants to express themselves, build independence, and achieve meaningful goals at their own pace.

Some NDIS Participants Who Have Used Our Services.
Stuart Williams
This is Stuart Williams - The Musical Poet. For us, it is important to allow NDIS Participants to have a voice.
Stuart had sessions at MOTOWN music school for a number of years. His amazing results are self evident in the work he has produced. He has come a long way from being a shy introvert, dealing with mental health issues, to composing, producing, recording and releasing his own music.
Stuart now has now published his recordings on Spotify and Soundcloud. Just click on the links (in bold).

As at 16th October, 2023, here is a screenshot of Stuart’s Spotify account dashboard. It's quite amazing to see. Well done Stuart!
Jordan L.
This is Jordan. It never ceases to amaze me how he manages to remember so many songs and of such a wide range of styles. His favourite group is The Wiggles, but his knowledge of music goes way beyond this band.
Jordan came to me distressed and unhappy. Generally this is him now … pretty relaxed. Personally, I can say it’s always fun spending time with him.
He started here on the guitar and has moved on to the drums and now, his favourite, the bass. He is really having fun; you can see it.
